Girls Playing RPGs

How did Gryph Jones - a scholar - end up on the outer reaches of the galaxy?  More importantly, how many RPG groups have actual females playing?  For this group - it was a first time and it put the game on it's head.   The dynamic really amped up as motivations and strategies not concieved before wove themselves into this adventure.
